In an ideal world the cross-step design would be the minimum standard, but alas that is just a mere pipe dream, and so when a stile does come along that actually incorporates this design it delivers with it a true feeling of euphoria. The two steps are at a good angle and height in relation to the other, and though the exclusion of the top bar does slightly impair the overall symmetry, it does not harm the functionality. Though the stile itself is stable enough and the wood used suitably solid, it is starting to show signs of wear and tear (as well as moss), and so some maintenance will be required soon. It is also a shame that the gap in the fence may encourage some to take the lazier route.
