Near Hothfield, Kent – 6/10

A stile that is certainly not afraid to court some controversy with how it implements its steps. The inclusion of two steps is certainly a plus point and though its particularly unique method may upset the purists, they do allow for relatively straight forward navigation as they are at a decent height in relation to the bars. This is further enhanced by the solid wood used which is also quite sturdy due to appropriate foundations put in place.

Though the attempts to remove the barbed wire are admirable, they are not quite good enough, as their attachment to the stile’s main posts could still lead to a nasty injury for those paying slightly less attention than they should be.

Signage is always welcomed on a stile, especially if it serves as a warning – though in this case it is rather redundant, as it is likely to be pretty obvious to anyone if the area is flood before they get to the stile, but I suppose there is no harm in being reminded!
