A very unusual design here that is certainly less than aesthetically pleasing. Due to the height of the stile, navigation is surprisingly textbook in spite of there just being the one solitary step. The step itself is nice and wide, and made of a solid material, while likewise the stile itself is also made of a reassuringly solid material. The side of the stile that is boarded up is quirky if your being kind, hideous if you are not. Perhaps this was once access for dogs and the landowner realised that his own animals were able to use it, or perhaps on the flipside it is actually a very functional element that can be removed to allow the landowner to get his sheep to move between fields – that is likely to remain one of life’s great mysteries!
