Some may call it ‘rustic’, but I call it ‘dangerous, lazy and ready to collapse at any second’; the landowner is of course obliged by land law to allow for access over the public rights of way that exist over their land and it very much seems that they have begrudgingly gone out of their way to use the most pathetic pieces of wood they could find to put together a stile with a design that is just about functional.
Though there is just the single step, it is admittedly at a decent height in relation to the bars, and the reasonably solid post does add the crucial and reassuring stability that is required for navigation, though some concentration is also required – that netting is poised to trap your shoes. This is a stile that certainly has to be approached with caution. Let’s just hope those sheep will be friendly!
