Now this truly is a tragic sight; If there is anything worse than a very bad stile, then it really does have to be a genuinely decent stile being left to waste simply rotting away and being denied the glory it so rightfully deserves. This is actually at one of the entrances to Hounslow Heath, so it certainly makes sense for it to be as accessible as possible, making this a case of a good stile in the wrong place – which just adds greater sorrow to this already extremely tragic tale!
The stile itself is a reassuring textbook design; solid and consistent wood used that is part of the connecting fence, with two very well positioned alternate-diagonal steps that are of substantial length and made of equally solid wood. However, marks are not just given solely for design, but also for functionality – and with that huge gap next to it, this stile will tragically be covered in overgrown weeds and completely forgotten about in no time at all!
