Near Wye, Kent – 5/10

This stile is a true concoction of inconsistency; it contains some great features, such as a generously sized step and a solid construction, but just fails to do some of the basics that should be expected from even the most primitive stile. The single step is of a very generous length – unnecessarily so in fact! The fact that both feet can easily be placed at the same time on each side certainly adds a reassuring level of comfort (and balance) to the user – in fact there is probably enough there to be used for two decent sized steps, which would have been a great help to get over that relatively high top beam.

Just for added extra peril – watch out for those stinging nettles when holding on to that top bar!
