Near Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire – 4/10

While the conventional approach when using the two steps is for them to be diagonal rather than side by side, it is still generally better to have two steps instead of one, but not when the wood used for steps looks like it is on the verge of disintegrating – as that is more than a little disconcerting!

This is a shame, as the rest of the stile is made of solid pieces of wood that are held together very well in what is a very sturdy overall structure with clear access to both sides, but even attempting to place one’s foot on those steps is certainly an extremely nerve-wracking experience – so many marks have to be deducted for that!
