Near Wye, Kent – 6/10

While it should be an expected minimum for a stile to have the standard two-step design, due to the general blasé attitude of landowners it is actually a depressingly rare sight. So as nice at is when a stile actually has two steps, it is in some ways even more annoying when they are almost at exactly the same height as one another!

However, the most gut-wrenching thing here is that the lower step is actually nearer to the stile on one side and almost concealed by the long grass, which pretty much completely destroys the actual purpose for its existence!

While the use of the two steps may (only very) slightly aid navigation, the top one is at admittedly at a reasonable height in relation to the top bar, and the two posts on either side are very solid and stable, so holding onto them offers balance and reassurance. This is overall a perfectly solid (quite literally), but unspectacular stile that does admittedly just about serve its function.
