This strange hybrid design of using old metal fences with multiple iron bars and then building the wooden steps around it is quite a common sight in Kent, and though it will never please the purists or ever be especially aesthetically pleasing, it can still produce an effective and functional stile. To add further to the controversy this stile does not have the conventional cross step design, but instead the three steps, which are a reassuring solid and sturdy design, and all three are at a decent height so as to make navigation stress-free. This stile may lack visual appeal, but is perfectly functional.
